Whaowhia te kete mātauranga - Fill the basket of knowledge
Take your skills in Te Reo Māori to the next stage with this intermediate level course.
A continuation class for those who have completed Te Reo Māori Level 1. Suitable for learners who have completed at least a beginner level course in Te Reo Māori.
We build on the basic active sentences taught in Level 1 (where the subject of the sentence performs the action described by the verb) i.e. Kei te oma a Hone – John is running.
We revisit the ‘a’ and ‘o’ categories in relation to the use of pronouns, as well as the use of pūhono – connectors (“i” me te “ki”) including when they should be used (time, location, direction, state, kaimahi, and comparing) i.e. Ka haere au ki te marae – I am going to the marae, I noho au i te marae – I am at the marae.
We learn to describe things using the “He” sentence structure (indefinite sentences) and introduce kare-a-roto (emotions and feelings i.e. he kapu tēnei – this is a cup, he pouri ia – he/she is sad.
We finish the term on introducing the “Ko” classifying sentences to introduce the subject being classified i.e. Ko au te kaiako – I am the teacher, Ko au he kaiako – I am a teacher, and introduce some basic kīwaha for everyday use.
