TE REO MAORI STAGE 3

It is highly recommended that students complete Level 2 before starting this course, as a solid understanding of sentence structures will help you continue to grow your te reo Māori conversational skills.

In Level 3, we build on the foundations of Level 2, where you learned active, indefinite, and classifying sentences. This course introduces:

  • Passive sentences – shifting the focus to the object of the action (e.g. I tito a Hine i te waiata – Hine composed the waiata)

  • Possessive sentences – expressing ownership and relationships (e.g. Nō Mere tēnei pukapuka – Mere owns the book)

  • Location sentences – describing the position or existence of something (e.g. Kei runga te pukapuka i te tēpu – the book is on the table)

We conclude the term with negation, learning how to express “not,” “no,” or “don’t” (e.g. Kaua e kōrero – don’t talk).

By the end of this course, you will have expanded your sentence structures and taken another step forward in your te reo Māori journey.
